The Kagay-an Festival 2010
Cagayan de Oro City in coordination with Promote CDO
Foundation, Inc. and other partner organizations is ready to roll out its
activities for its most awaited fiesta celebration this coming August 2010, the
KAGAY-AN FESTIVAL 2010. This will be the rallying point for a campaign to promote
Cagayan de Oro and the surrounding areas globally as an investment and tourism
destination. The seven (7) core events will truly make it an unforgettable
celebration. Here are a few to watch out for:
DAGAN SA KAGAY-AN
A 2km, 5km and 10km fun run this August 22, 2010. The said
event will be participated by around 1,500 runners. The Divisoria Kiosk will
serve as the start and finish line for the 3 race distances. Cash Prizes
winners, medals and certificates shall be given to all participants. The event
is co-organized by Circle Productions, Inc.
Locally-made products of the region will be displayed and
sold at the Limketkai Mall Rotunda on August 23 – 29, 2010. The trade fair will be highlighted with a
special setting of the One-Town, One-Product (OTOP) of the different cities,
municipalities, and provinces of Region 10.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will spearhead the event
together with various local producers.
MS. KAGAY-AN 2010
The traditional search for Ms. Kagay-an will be held on
August 26, 2010 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center. The pageant will
showcase the candidates’ talents, poise, beauty, and wit as winners become the
City’s tourism ambassadors. Winners will be awarded with cash prizes,
international travel, and other major awards. The event will be co-organized by
the Department of Tourism Region X.
KAGAY-AN FOLKLORIC DANCE COMPETITION
A Kagay-anon celebration of folkloric tales, legends, epics
and stories through dance with street dance parade and dance showcase
components. The competition will be held on August 27, 2010 with A “Karo-tao”
dance technique choreography shown along the City’s main streets that ends with
a tableau presentation at the Pelaez Sports Center Complex. It is open to all
Barangays, Government Agencies, Schools, Cultural Communities or any other
community or Organization within the City of Cagayan de Oro. Winners of this
competition will receive cash prizes, trophies, and certificates of
participation. Cash prizes are: Grand Prize – 150,000.00; First Runner-
125,000.00; Second Runner up - 100,000.00; Special Citation for
Choreography - 10,000.00; Special
Citation for Music - 10,000.00; Special Citation for Costume - 10,000.00 and
Consolation Prizes of P10,000 per participating group.
PE RHYTHMIC DANCE 2010
A special dance showcase presentation of field demo
participated in by Physical Education (PE) students from different schools of
Cagayan de Oro City on August 27, 2010 at the Pelaez Sports Center Complex.This
event is co-organized by the Department of Tourism Region X, DepEd and CHED.
4th GOLDEN FLOAT PARADE COMPETITION 2010
The Golden Float Parade Competition features different float
entries from participating Companies, Government, Non-Government and Private
Organizations, Schools, and Agencies. This will be held in the morning of
August 28, 2010 along the city’s main streets.
On its 4th year, the competition is being co-organized by the United
Architects of the Philippines-CDO Gold Chapter. Each float depicts a themed
design or drama recounting Cagayan de Oro’s growth and development, history,
people or cultural or event. Cash prizes
at stake are: 1st prize – P150,000; 2nd
Prize – P100,000; 3rd Prize – 50,000.
HALAD SA LAMBAGOHAN
Is a significant event as it highlights the role of Cagayan
de Oro River in the community. This will be held on August 28, 2010 which will
be highlighted with two corollary events: the floating of lighted lanterns and
a competition of stationary lanterns/flotillas which will be anchored along the
banks of the Golden Mile fronting the City Hall. These activities aim to manifest our
gratitude to the Almighty and our patron saint, St. Augustine for the
life-giving river from which the dynamism of the City has evolved. It also
intends to bring to the consciousness of the people of the City the importance
of preserving the ecology of the river for future generations to enjoy. The
anchored lanterns/flotilla competition will have two categories: the Corporate
category and the Community based/Barangay category. Entries will be judged according to design
and aesthetics. Winners of this competition will receive cash prizes, trophies,
and certificates of participation. Cash prizes are: P20,000.00 for the Grand
Prize; 15,000.00 for the 1st Runner Up; and 10,000.00 for the 2nd Runner Up.
The event is co-organized by the Safer River Life Saver Foundation with the
participation of Oro Association of Rafters (OARs), the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK)
Federation, St. Augustine Parish and Association of Barangay Councils (ABC).
